Rikers Island no place for kids

-

East Elmhurst: The teenagers here at Rikers Island are abused. Correction officers have a quick trigger finger with the mace, spraying too many times, which causes health and mental damage. Remember, mace is a dangerous chemical. I volunteer for the Catholic Chaplain Sister Margaret McCabe. At Mass, I speak to the teenagers and give them Bibles to bring back to their units and read. I also help them with legal work.

One of those kids is Prakash Churaman, who has a bogus murder indictment against him in Queens Supreme Court and was charged when he was 15. His judge is Gregory Lasak, who was the top homicide prosecutor in Queens for many years and might as well still be working as a prosecutor.

Court officers were very aggressive with this child and got the kid a new indictment for assaulting the court officers. This is ludicrous! What is this kid doing in adult court, when he should be in Family Court? Please help these kids. Kevin Patrick Smith

Kids today

Oakland Gardens: Going to the public library is a thing of the past. Barnes & Noble in Queens did not have a noble ending. Comic books, once a tool to teach us the joy of reading fact or fiction, have been taken off the face of the Earth by computers, iPads and such, so that kids are going virtually cockeyed watching their computers 24/7. Boy, would I like to go back to the good old days reading comic books with my friends and family. Gary Rofofsky

Stay safe

Suffern, N.Y.: Let me get this straight. President Trump is somehow responsible for the animal who came to NYC and murdered a black man with a sword. But ever since his presidency began, the same people called him a racist and a bigot for trying to stop unvetted immigration of Muslims so they don’t do the same thing, or worse. Hypocrites.

Publicity guaranteed

Brooklyn: A killer came from Baltimore to NYC to make a name for himself and the Daily News plants his ugly mug on the front page. I guess it’s true what they say: There’s no fixin’ stupid.

Say it’s Joe

Bronx: To Voicer Stephanie Mitchell, who loves Tom Brady of the New England Patriots. Sorry, honey, but Brady will never measure up to my guy, Joe Montana, of the San Francisco 49ers. Joe is not playing football anymore, but he’s still top dog in my book. Doris Festante

Teach our teachers

Bayside: To Voicer Sue Aiello: We too were outraged over the Board of Regents’ plan to eliminate the Academic Literacy Skills Test for teachers. We called and wrote to Gov. Cuomo, Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie and Senate Majority Leader John Flanagan to express our concerns. We reminded them that New York spends more money on education than any other state or country, yet globally is at the bottom of the ladder in reading compared to Third World nations. This is unacceptable. We have eight grandchildren and we resent the fact that political correctness is playing a large part in dumbing down their education in the future and their right to reach their full potential. New Yorkers should be calling Albany in droves to protest this latest outrage. Our children should not be pawns, with our tax dollars, in this latest folly.

Save our states

Long Beach, L.I.: The press and politicians are swinging without success, and making errors. The Russians have a huge lead, if they in fact interfered in our election. The score right now is Russia 8, United States 0. It is still game on, but we are into the eighth inning. If we are to win this game, we better find some heavy hitters. Our politicians have to pull themselves together. Not for their districts, not for their states, but for the United States of America.

How to spell ‘toast’

Barnegat, N.J.: The legend of Trump: D is for delusional, this man he has no equal. O is only in his mind, his legend has no sequel. N: His nightly tweets make him the butt of many jokes. A: He’s always right you know the Russians tell him so. L is for the lecher in him, he will have to look it up. D: As the chief deplorable, a poison to the world’s cup. T is for the tall tales he tells, so manic he believes them. R is for the ruins this country will be in when he’s through. U is for unbalanced — Spicer, tell him what that means. M is for mental illness, he exudes it from his seams. P is for buddy Putin, can’t wait till all’s exposed — and Trump and Republicans alike all go! Lynda Spurdis

His shot

Brick, N.J.: I wonder when “Trump!” the musical comedy will hit Broadway.

Rattled up

Brooklyn: The U.S. Geological Survey for the first time is tracking human-induced earthquakes alongside natural temblors, with Oklahoma leading the Midwest states for shaker probability. America’s midsection has experienced an uptick in quakes due in part to hydraulic fracturing. President Trump needs to take a look at the process of extracting fossil fuel from the ground. And still he claims climate change does not exist. Helene Siwinski

Leadership qualities

Bayside: Voicer Tom Scott says that in Hillary Clinton Russia wanted another weak President like Obama. Obama and Clinton are two of the most serious and sensible people worthy of leading a great nation like ours. Trump is a free-will man who does things without thinking; he is not to be told what to do. Therefore he is not in love with his environment. His catchphrase “Make America great again” was just that, a catchphrase. America was great before Trump came and will be great after he leaves. A smart businessman does not make a smart President. As President, Trump cannot keep lying to the people. Joe Murad

Dem haters

Middletown, N.Y.: I agree with Voicer Steve Feuer: The Democrats, along with CNN and MSNBC, are tearing this country apart with vicious hatred and false accusations toward the Trump administration. The Democrats forget that they represent all the people of this country. I am a Democrat who voted for Trump because of Obama’s failed policies and Clinton’s dishonesty. Many Democrats have had enough of the outright hatred toward Trump and his supporters. Let’s move on, stop the false news and start telling the American people about Trump’s many accomplishments. I have become a Fox News viewer. Thank you, Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity and let’s not forget the great Mark Levin. For fair and honest reporting, I may suggest to my fellow Democrats that they educate themselves about what’s happening in this country. I never thought that I would see such hate coming from a party that I’ve embraced for years.

Wigging out

Long Island City: Bill O’Reilly showed stupidity once again on “Fox & Friends,” not showing Rep. Maxine Waters respect after she lost her head criticizing President Trump. He said Waters was wearing a James Brown wig. On a scale of 1 to 10, I give it a 5. It was all in jest. Black women are too sensitive. O’Reilly’s apology was a waste of time.

Barbarians on the Hill

Howell, N.J.: Is it really true that Elizabeth Warren, Nancy Pelosi and Maxine Waters all graduated from the Attila the Hun School of Charm? Gerald Steakin

Off the Street

Manhattan: To Voicers W. Twirley and Cindy Roberts re “Fearless Girl”: Bronze is not a race or symbolic of anything. Now she’ll be moved to a different “hood,” for dark-skinned girls are not allowed on Wall Street.

Yvonne Crequé

Fruitless attempt

Manhattan: Can any Voicers tell me how to peel a kiwi fruit?

Driven mad

JAMES KEIVOM Bronx: Horrible, terrible M55 bus transit! The lunatic heads of the MTA cut off, killed and destroyed our M5, which went all the way downtown to the Staten Island Ferry. Now it ends at 31st St. MTA heads are insane! We will absolutely remove, end, stop and abolish the crazy M55 now. Make all our transit 1,000 times better now! William Mordente
