SAM Happy Easter weekend! Good Friday brings two Way of the Cross processions, in midtown and in lower Manhattan.
The first will gather at 8:30 a.m. at Dag Hammarskjold Plaza (47th St. at First Ave.). Participants will head to 42nd St., then cut across it to Eighth Ave., ending around noon. This will cause some traffic turbulence along intersecting avenues as well as 42nd St., though streets will not officially close.
The procession should arrive in Manhattan around noon, making stops at City Hall, Ground Zero, and ending at St. Peter’s Church, on Barclay St. at Church St., at 1:30 p.m. This will impact traffic in the Civic Center area and at the Brooklyn Bridge entrance and exit by City Hall.
Though the planned gathering place is above 41st St., crowds may reach as far as 34th St., and the NYPD is prepared to enforce intermittent closures as far south as 23rd St.
From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., demonstrators will march north on Sixth Ave., from Bryant Park to 54th St. Along this route, there will be no crosstown traffic. At 54th St., they’ll head east, toward Fifth A bold, new sense of adventure is filling your life. This might range from newly kindled passion to a desire to travel the world. Follow these impulses.
