More than 2,500 Jets fans chimed in (2,631, to be exact). The sobering results were indicative of a rebuilding team riddled with holes. The winner (or loser) of the poll: Corner- backs. Barely.

Twenty-seven percent of voters believe that general manager Mike Maccagnan needs to grab a corner early on April 27. Quarterbac­ks were not far behind: 26% of fans think that the Jets must select one with their first pick.

Safeties (24%) and an offensive skill position like wide receiver, tight end or running back (23%) rounded out the voting. Put another way: When your roster needs this much help, there is no right or wrong answer. A 27-26-24-23 poll split tells you everything you need to know about the state of this franchise.

Well, the Jets arguably have the worst signal caller situation in the NFL. Sure, the Browns might have a legitimate case too, but there’s no disputing that Maccagnan has a significan­t problem on his hands. Josh McCown was a sound veteran addition, but there are massive question marks about the players he’ll mentor. Is McCown the Bridge to Nowhere?

Bryce Petty showed some promising glimpses in four starts last season, but the feeling on One Jets Drive is that his rate of progress from the moment that he was plucked out of Baylor’s spread system two years ago until now isn’t fast enough. If the Jets draft a quarterbac­k in a premium round (1-3), Petty appears to be the odd man out, which is a shame given his physical skills and work ethic.
