Noah nails solution to his finger woes

-

NOAH Syndergaard has a new manicure routine. The Mets ace has been battling blisters and cracked fingernails early this season, but may have found a solution: fake fingernails. Syndergaard, Thursday’s starter, told The News he had them done on Tuesday and felt fine throwing with them.

Terry Collins believes the issues could be due to Syndergaard’s grip on a certain pitch.

“A lot comes on this one particular grip, the seams are running on top of his finger and you’re catching the skin or catching the nail,” Collins said before the game. “So that’s something we gotta take a look at.”

WRIGHT BACK AT IT

After confusing mixed signals about David Wright’s status on Tuesday, the Mets third baseman said the flu, not a lower back issue, had held him out of rehab workouts last week. Wright, who soft tossed before Wednesday night’s game, said he was doing the same activities he was doing before the flu: taking groundballs, soft toss, hitting and running.

“I got sick, no setbacks,” Wright said. “It was the flu. Hoping to ramp up the throwing soon.”

GM Sandy Alderson said there was a minor lower back issue with Wright last week and Collins had said he had been shut down for 10 days from throwing.

Either way, Wright is still a long way away from a return.

TOSS UP

Injured pitchers Steven Matz and Seth Lugo both participated in a long toss before Wednesday’s game and reported no issues.

Now the question becomes how will they feel on Thursday.

Matz landed on the disabled list right before the start of the season when he began feeling elbow discomfort. Lugo, who pitched for Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic, was diagnosed with a torn ulnar collateral ligament on Opening Day.

DOUBLE TROUBLE

Travis d’Arnaud left Wednesday night’s game with a bruised and cut right wrist in the seventh and Lucas Duda was forced out in the fifth with a hyperextended left elbow. They are considered day-to-day.
