AN 8-YEAR-OLD boy was killed when a heavy flower box fell on his head outside his Brooklyn home, police said.

The freak accident happened about 5:20 p.m. on Ryder St. in Marine Park.

Police said the boy, Kevin Reilly, was climbing on a metal gate covering ground-floor windows in front of the home.

He reached up and grabbed at the flower box, which is 4 feet long and 6 inches wide and is made of either concrete or ceramic, cops said.

The yellow painted box came loose and fell on Kevin as he tumbled to the ground.

“I couldn’t believe it,” said neighbor Rahadul Kabir, 37. “His mom was screaming and crying. I heard her screaming for 911. She had a hard time lifting it off.”

An auxiliary cop and a second person helped the mother free Kevin from under the box.

The boy was then rushed to Coney Island Hospital, where he died.

Kevin, his mother and two siblings were new to the block, having moved in less than a year ago.

Still, the boy had made his mark — a typical kid whom everyone liked.

“I’m heartbroken,” said.

Sofia Fason, 12, a friend of Kevin’s, said he was often outside playing with his two sisters.

“He was energetic, fun and nice,” she said. “He liked playing on the scooter and basketball.” Kabir

The Department of Buildings emergency response team was on scene Thursday night investigating the house and ledge the planter fell from.

Neighbor Elizabeth Battisa, 49, read about the accident on a news app — then arrived home to find police officers on her block.

“I was just in a state of shock,” she said.

“Who would have thought a potted plant would be so dangerous — that something this tragic could happen?” said another neighbor, Theresa Rhatigan, 43.
