KNICK SHOOT BUSTS
THREE SUSPECTS in the armed robbery and shooting of ex-Knicks benchwarmer Cleanthony Early were arrested Tuesday — 16 months after the holdup.
The trio taken into custody included Dashawn (Pop) Tejada, 26, of Brooklyn, the man suspected of blasting the second-round draft pick in the knee outside a Queens strip joint in the early morning hours of Dec. 30, 2015, federal authorities said.
Also arrested were Johan (Yodi) Antney, 26, of Queens, and Shaqueel (Bear) Walker, 25, of Brooklyn.
The men are charged in Brooklyn Federal Court with robbery, conspiracy, robbery and use of firearms during crimes of violence. They face at least a 10-year mandatory minimum sentence if convicted of the most serious charges.
Early (photo) was shot by one of the ski-masked bandits, who escaped with $9,000 worth of jewelry and two phones valued at $800 each.
The thieves even stole the gold caps from Early’s teeth, officials said. Authorities said two other suspects are still being sought.
A criminal complaint from last year described the scene where an outnumbered Early was targeted shortly after he and his girlfriend left the CityScapes Gentleman’s Club in Maspeth.
According to court papers, the suspects “were informed of the presence of professional basketball players in the club.”
When Early and his girlfriend got into an Uber, the robbers boxed in the vehicle and forced it to stop in the middle of the street, prosecutors said. Then they ordered everyone out at gunpoint and took items including jewelry and cell phones from Early and the driver. “Notwithstanding, the defendant Dashawn Tejada fired a gunshot at Victim 1 striking him in the leg,” the documents said.
Authorities have already arrested one of the conspirators behind the robbery. Delvon Dowling, 23, pleaded guilty last month to a charge of accessory after the fact. He faces 10 years in prison.
