Wrist forces d’Arnaud out

-

ATLANTA —The hits keep coming for the Mets, and not the kind they desperately need. Travis d’Arnaud left Tuesday night’s loss in the sixth inning with a sore right wrist. The catcher said the wrist flared up Tuesday, but it is also the same issue that kept him from catching four games last week.

D’Arnaud said he was not worried about a lingering issue with his wrist.

GRANDY SESSIONS

Curtis Granderson was out of the starting lineup Tuesday to work on his swing. Kevin Long, who has worked with Granderson since 2010, said he had not seen the veteran outfielder’s swing so out of sync since 2013.

So Terry Collins gave Granderson a day to work on getting his bottom half more involved in the mechanics of his swing.

The Mets outfielder was 1-forhis last 29 at-bats, hitting .124 with a .177 on-base percentage.

Long said Granderson was not using his legs and bottom half as he had in the past, which was leaving him to try and find power in his arms.

Granderson pinch hit in the seventh Tuesday night and flew out to left field.

CABRERA CONCERN

Asdrubal Cabrera has struggled defensively this season. The shortstop, who surprised everyone with his defense last season, committed his third error of the season Monday night in his 23rd game of the season. He had just seven total errors in 135 games last season.

“There have been a couple balls he’s gotten to in the past that he hasn’t gotten to,” Collins said. “I am not sure if he is trying to make sure he doesn’t take it too far this early. That’s why I gave him Sunday off.”

FRIDAY STARTER

The Mets are planning on having righthander Rafael Montero make the start Friday for the injured Noah Syndergaard, a team source said. The team has not yet confirmed that and Collins said the decision will be finalized today.

The only two viable options the Mets have are Montero and lefty Sean Gilmartin, who gave up five runs on seven hits in 2.2 innings on Sunday . . . . Lucas Duda, who felt discomfort in his left elbow after his first rehab game, hit off a tee on Tuesday. Collins said there is no schedule for him to return to rehab games yet. Yoenis Cespedes did rehab at the Mets’ spring training complex in Florida.
