Colbert vs. Trump: Down ‘n’ dirty

-

Yonkers: Bravo to Stephen Colbert and to CBS for its highly rated show (“Stephen Colbert is not Bill O’Reilly and he is NOT getting fired,” column, May 3)! He tells it like it is and that’s wonderful. No fake news there! If the p***ygrabber-inchief can demean women and still get elected, then Colbert can take him down through his astute and clever comedy. The reason no one would have tolerated it if aimed at President Obama is because he never did anything to deserve it. His behavior was impeccable and his entire administration squeaky clean and scandal-free. Too bad, Trump! Suzanne Hayes-Kelly

Stephen Colbert has been unwatchable since Day One, but on May 1 he took it to a despicable level of vulgar profanity. CEO Les Moonves: What were you thinking that this man could replace David Letterman? Send him packing with his contract package and move the multi- talented James Corden in his slot and your ratings will soar. He is obsessed with news and we’re fed up with it. There’s enough nonstop news about the chaos in our city plus Washington to give us migraines. We need to come home again and kick off our shoes and relax. Thank God cable channel Antenna TV has reruns of the late Johnny Carson. Now that was a class act! Max E. Forman

Respect needed

Elmont, L.I.: Hey Voicer Susan Kretchman: Where have you been for the last eight years? The things said about ex-President Obama and his family were despicable and they did nothing more than carry themselves like role models. No. 45 has very large shoes to fill — and so far he can’t figure out which is left and which is right! Jeffrey Carter

The Clooney rule

Hicksville, L.I.: Maybe Stephen Colbert should speak with George Clooney about respect for the President and our country’s highest office. George reprimanded a conservative reporter for addressing President Obama as “Obama” and not “Mr. President” or “Mr. Obama.” Of course, Colbert was only defending a helpless CBS employee — guess that makes it alright.

Bad network

Rusk, Tex.: I cannot believe a top-rated network like CBS would let a creep like Stephen Colbert mouth off about President Trump the way he is doing. Colbert has to know leaders from other countries can pick up the crude information he is dishing out. He has a problem accepting that Trump was elected by the people. He is totally trying to operate without a brain and has a weak character. CBS needs to F-I-R-E that dumb jerk immediately! Jeanie Roach

He’s funny

Green Valley, Ariz.: I thought Stephen Colbert was very funny on Monday night, not crude. Donald Trump is crude, stupid and a lying jerk. He is only President to further his own agenda to make more money. He cares only for himself. He is one big “con.”

Reba Pearce

So not funny

Wappingers Falls, N.Y.: This is not funny any longer. We need to show some respect for our leader, even if he was not your candidate. It’s a disgrace what’s happening in America! I am ashamed of the people of our country. They are acting like spoiled babies! It’s a sad day for our country! The producers of these shows are enabling it. I’m not watching CBS any longer. Jane Cizynski

Colbert envy

Brooklyn: Why do I get the impression that when Stephen Colbert interviews stars on his nightly show, he’s thinking “Why hasn’t Hollywood come calling to cast me in an Oscar-winning role? I’m so smart and talented!” Maybe that’s why this disgruntled guy opens each show with a vicious anti-Trump rant. Enough already, Stephen! He is our President. Ruth Biller

(C)ommunist BS

Little Rock, Ark.: To describe Colbert as a “squeaky clean family man” is quite a statement when he regularly uses foul language, is unpatriotic and is a representative of the Communist Party. Filth such as his should be banned from TV. The morality of this country diminished greatly after eight years of Marxist Muslim Barack Hussein Obama’s term as community organizer pushing the agenda of the Democrat Communist Party. As for boycotts, check with Target and see how their perverted “all gender restroom” policy has cost them millions. When the alt-left demonstrated against Chik-fil-a and Hobby Lobby, Christians subsequently increased their support and sales markedly increased. This was after the Obama administration attacked DOMA and pushed his sick agenda. Colbert is a disgrace and hopefully the FCC will start enforcing obscenity laws once again and take the pollution off the air — both TV and radio. Only degenerates or moral midgets watch Colbert’s Late Show, so it is not surprising if his viewer audience drops. Tom Alstadt

Wall to wall coverage

Wall, N.J.: Voicer Irving Gelb has a novel idea. He wants President Trump’s supporters to pay for the border wall. My question: Where do I sign up to pay? The wall will be cheaper than paying government assistance to many illegals.

News needs more good news

Brooklyn: The picture on page 10 in Friday’s paper should have been on the front page and the leading story (“Tragic bond,” May 5). But as usual you do nothing but criticize our President. The story of Irene Moore and Debbi Blackwell coming together at Brian Moore’s memorial was beautiful and a wonderful example of forgiveness and love. It brought me to tears. But rag sheet that The News has become, it continues to promote hate and division. My father worked as a pressman for The News for almost 40 years. He must look down and weep at what it has become. Cathy Sheehan-Wilson

Be positive

Walden, N.Y.: My patriotism is strong; that’s how I was raised! We are all in this great country together! We need to see more togetherness and good in each other rather than the protests and the splits we have seen in the media. It was very bittersweet to see the two moms that had a tragic bond embrace. We need to see more of this, and try to mend America! Let’s not hate, let’s work together to make a stronger, greater America! Gail Ellis

Prison protection

Bronx: Once again your paper got it all wrong (“Tot strip search,” May 5). As a retired correctional officer with over 22 years experience in the New York City jails, I have seen visitors who come to see inmates try to sneak in all kinds of contraband, whether it be through a baby’s diaper or diaper bags, or through the visitors’ secreting contraband in their private parts. It is necessary for correction staff to search all who come through to visit an incarcerated inmate. I, for one, commend those correction offices for doing their job to keep everyone in the jail environment safe.

The end is here

Kearny, N.J.: With pending repeal of even the modest health care JEFFERSON SIEGEL plan Americans had, along with rollbacks of environmental regulations and consumer protections, chipping away of voting rights and civil rights, attacks on journalism, strengthening of police powers, cult-of-personality type rallies by our divisive leader at which dissenters are attacked, and blatant giveaways to the richest individuals and corporations, our country is on the road to becoming a Third World oligarchy. It was nice knowing you, America. You used to be a great country.

Mets health woes

Brooklyn: Whoever is in charge of the Mets’ physical conditioning needs to be put on the permanent disabled list. The team has enough pre-existing conditions to bankrupt Obamacare.

Michael Balton

Mike’s meandering monologue

Shelton, Conn.: As I’ve dropped cable, I probably will never see this Mike Greenberg show (“Mike Greenberg’s new ESPN show will be similar to ‘Morning Joe,’” May 3). But I doubt I’d bother watching it, just because I thought Greenberg sucked on “Mike and Mike”; he had a terrible habit of taking what should have been a two-minute answer and turning it into a 15-minute monologue that would bore you to tears by the seven-minute mark — all because he’d add in too much unneeded additional information to back up his position.
