Green, Spurs prevail in OT

Danny Green scored seven of his 16 points in overtime, and the host Spurs overcame an injury to Kawhi Leonard to beat James Harden and the Rockets, 110-107, on Tuesday night to take a 3-2 lead in their second-round playoff series.

Leonard notched 22 points and 15 rebounds in 38 minutes before exiting with an injured right ankle. Leonard stepped on Harden’s foot with 5:37 left in the third quarter and then played limited minutes before sitting out overtime.

Harden had 33 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. He had a chance at a tying 3-pointer in the final seconds of OT, but was blocked from behind by Manu Ginobili. Game 6 is Thursday in Houston.

THAMES BELTS 13TH

Eric Thames hit his 13th homer of the year in a five-run first inning as the host Brewers outslugged the Red Sox, 11-7. Boston’s Mookie Betts went 4-for-4 and drove in four runs.

l Mark Trumbo singled in the tiebreakin­g run in the 12th inning, and the host Orioles won their sixth straight, a 5-4 over the Nationals.

l John Lackey struck out 10 over seven scoreless innings and added an RBI single, helping the visiting Cubs stop a four-game skid by beating the Rockies, 8-1, for a daynight doublehead­er split. In the first game, the Rockies cruised past Jake Arrieta in a 10-4 win.

l Mike Moustakas homered in the 12th inning as the visiting Royals came back from a four-run deficit to beat the Rays, 7-6.

l Hector Santiago beat his former team once again, Byron Buxton had three hits and the visiting Twins rolled over the White Sox, 7-2. Santiago (4-1) allowed two runs, three hits and five walks over 6.2 innings. He struck out six and dropped his ERA to 2.76. The lefty is 5-1 with a 1.59 ERA against the White Sox, who traded him in 2013 to the Angels.

l Taylor Motter had the go-ahead RBI double in the ninth as the visiting Mariners overcame a four-run deficit to beat the Phillies, 10-9. Robinson Cano, who left the game with a quadriceps injury, homered for the Mariners.

l Carlos Correa and Carlos Beltran hit consecutiv­e homers off Bartolo Colon during a five-run first inning as the host Astros cruised to an 8-3 victory over the Braves. Colon (1-4) gave up eight runs and three homers, both season highs, in 5.2 innings. His ERA ballooned to 7.22.

l Yan Gomes hit a threerun homer as the visiting Indians beat the Blue Jays, 6-0.

l Pinch-hitter Dexter Fowler singled home the tiebreakin­g run with one out in the ninth as the visiting Cardinals rallied for their fifth consecutiv­e victory by beating the Marlins, 6-5.

l A.J. Griffin hurled a four-hit shutout against his hometown team as the visiting Rangers routed the Padres, 11-0, to stop a three-game losing streak.

Panthers assistant general manager Brandon Beane was hired to fill the Bills’ GM vacancy in yet another indication of rookie head coach Sean McDermott’s growing influence over team decisions.

l A linebacker in the NFL who starred at Rutgers was charged by a grand jury in connection with a shooting in New Jersey and was put on waivers by the Kansas City Chiefs. Khaseem Greene was charged with unlawful weapon possession in a Dec. 3, 2016, shooting in Elizabeth, where he is from.
