He’s busted upstate in attack on tourist
A SEXUAL PREDATOR wanted for beating and molesting a tourist in Harlem was nabbed upstate Thursday, police said.
Keon Robinson, 28, was sporting a T-shirt that read, “Same Shirt, Different Day,” when members of the New York-New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested him in Schenectady around 9 a.m., sources said.
The ex-con was staying with an old girlfriend after his aunt kicked him out of her home, police sources said.
Detectives tracked him down by visiting different relatives, sources said.
Robinson called police several times, suggesting he wanted to surrender, only to back out.
His name and picture were released to the media by the NYPD on Monday, with Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce calling him “a highly dangerous individual.”
Robinson, a Level 3 sex offender — the most likely to reoffend — is suspected of attacking a 31-year-old British woman on April 4 as she headed to her Airbnb rental.
He grabbed the woman around her neck from behind, said he had a gun and demanded her handbag on W. 146th St. near Frederick Douglass Blvd. around 2:50 a.m., according to cops.
The struggle and the brutal punches Robinson hurled in the woman’s face were captured on surveillance video released by cops.
Robinson’s wallops knocked the woman’s teeth out, police said.
After pummeling her, he pulled her pants off and groped her, cops said.
Robinson wore a red hoodie over a light T-shirt, a dark green army jacket and jogging pants and a smirk as he was led into a police car for his arraignment.
“You’re taking pictures of an innocent man. I’m innocent,” Robinson told reporters as officers took him into court. He remained silent when asked about the video of the attack, and when asked again if he was innocent, he replied, “Absolutely.”
He has been charged with attempted rape, sexual abuse and multiple counts of robbery and assault — all connected to the April 4 attack, officials said.
Robinson is also facing robbery and assault raps for the April 24 stickup and beating of a 35-year-old woman near W. 130th St. and Bradhurst Ave.
He is awaiting arraignment in Manhattan criminal court.
Police also think he is responsible for a third robbery on April 27 on W. 139th St.
Robinson was convicted of biting and trying to rape a woman at gunpoint in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn in 2006.
