The pain on the train won’t wane

-

Plainview, L.I.: Let’s hear it for the LIRR! There have been “signal problems” every night this week causing delays, but the commute home Wednesday, May 10, was an absolute insult to all the passengers, especially those of us who just received a fare increase for our monthly tickets. To have 80 — yes, 80 — trains canceled is beyond unacceptable. LIRR blames it on Amtrak, or weather, or signal problems, or broken crossing gates, or a myriad of other inane excuses, anything but their own incompetence in running one of the largest commuter lines in the world.

Thank you to the NYPD for maintaining a semblance of order and watching out for the safety of the passengers under extremely unsafe conditions. Is there anyone out there who cares about us thoroughly disgusted and frustrated commuters? Phyllis Rosenblatt Oceanside, L.I.: Amtrak repairs to Penn Station adding to the daily nightmare for LIRR commuters will be like rebuilding an old car, with people in it, while it’s moving!

The LIRR should make July and August monthly tickets half-price to compensate for the commuting nightmare to come. Peter Dwyer

Access-A-Ride hero

Richmond Hill: In recent weeks, there have been many negative comments about Access-A-Ride. I would like to give a big shoutout and thank you to Johnny Tucker of Maggie’s Paratransit, who returned my handbag and would not accept a reward. Johnny, you saved my day and I appreciate your honesty and kindness. Thank you.

Unfair judgment

Bayonne: You’re cruel to Judge Joan Kenney for merely expressing her outrage at being photographed during the dark moments of the early morning and later refusing to allow reporters to monitor her proceedings and to use her as a punching bag. There are good sides to Judge Kenney and they should be mentioned.

Quality of life downhill

Ozone Park: To all taxpaying residents in New York City, please know that the mayor and City Council members (most of whom no one can name) have allowed the quality of life that you once enjoyed. It is no longer a crime to urinate in public, drink alcohol on the streets. If you call to complain about a loud noisy house party, the NYPD is no longer allowed to enter a party in the confines of someone’s property without the owner’s consent; this includes a fenced-in yard. Sound equipment cannot be confiscated from those who do not comply with the request to turn it down. Bail amounts are lowered to accommodate those who cannot afford to pay, probably to decrease the numbers of inmates so the Rikers Island facility can be closed. Property taxes will probably increase due to the expansion of free child care, since a total of 800 people were surveyed and 64% of those think it’s a good idea. This “sanctuary city” has become one that the lawless rule. The only upside is for real estate agents who will make money on all the residents leaving New York. Cecilia Walsh

Blackmailed Bill?

South Hempstead, N.J.: The question isn’t whether or not Correction Commissioner Joseph Ponte should be fired. Everyone knows the answer to that. The question should be, “What does he have on Mayor de Blasio?”

Yay for Yates

Forest Hills: Sally Yates told Congress the truth about ex-Gen. Michael Flynn. In the words of our tweeter-in-chief: “Sad.”

John H. Szalkay

Hockey and Hillary

Wilmington, Del.: To all those Democratic voters who acted like babies when Hillary Clinton lost the election, try being a Ranger fan. Only once have the Rangers celebrated victory since 1940. Every year since 1994, it’s been nothing but heartbreak and anger. At least you Democrats can smoke pot for the next four years until the next presidential election comes along.

Bid Alain adieu

Point Pleasant, N.J.: Alain Vigneault’s time behind the Ranger bench must end immediately. He has never won anything and his team has had the worst power play in hockey the last five years. Five years is more than enough. He’s not the man to guide the Rangers to the Stanley Cup. It’s time to bring in a proven winner like Mike Keenan or Darryl Sutter. Alain the mistake must go! Mike Agar

Harvey’s a headache

Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.: Matt Harvey should take a cue from Kyle Turris of the Ottawa Senators: After scoring the overtime winner, does he hit the club scene trying to pick up models? No, he goes and has dinner with a group of special-needs kids. By the way, did Harvey get that migraine in time to stay home to watch his beloved Rangers lose? Karma is a bitch. Steve Greagor

It could be worse

Garwood, N.J.: Everyone, including me, would love to see the “orange man” out of office. But beware, my friends, there is a snake in the grass. As bad as President Trump is, Mike Pence is worse because he actually knows what he is talking about. If you check Pence’s record in Congress and especially in Indiana, he is terrible on women’s rights and LGBT rights, and he even stiffed the people of Indiana out of $7 million for a tax break for United Tech/Carrier AC in order to make Trump look good as “Mr. Jobs.” Does anyone of a sane mind believe that for 18 days after Sally Yates informed the White House about Gen. Flynn’s activities, that no one would inform the vice president of the United States? Pence went around and around on all the Sunday a.m. shows and lied through his teeth with a straight face. They are all liars and should be thrown out on their butts. John Deichmeister

Vulgarity and outrage

North Arlington, N.J.: Voicer Reba Shimansky is upset that the Daily News would allow one of its most respected columnists, Linda Stasi, to defend President Trump against a disgusting attempt at humor directed at the President by late-night host Stephen Colbert. Her reasoning being, it is appropriate because Trump is the most unfit and corrupt person to ever be president. Earth to Reba, Hillary Clinton isn’t, never was, and never will be President. So isn’t it about time you came in off the ledge, and back to reality?

Armand Rose

Love Trump or leave U.S.

Kew Gardens: A few months ago, Voicer Reba Shimansky wrote that she does not consider Donald Trump her President. I sent in a letter offering to pay for Shimansky’s relocation to another country, where Trump will not be her President. My offer still stands. Barry Koppel

Pass the popcorn

Jamaica: To Voicer Sheila Persson: I didn’t vote for Donald Trump, but I’m not bitter that the election was rigged in his favor, either. I have the pleasure of watching the star performer of this three-ring circus balance a ball on his nose. He has difficulty mastering his act. I’m only bothered when I run out of popcorn during his performance. The fact that you believe citizens are simply angry over Hillary losing indicates you’re as clueless as the DREW ANGERER/GETTY IMAGES rest of his supporters, and makes Donald a shoo-in for going down in history as a one-term circus performer. You’ll still be clueless as to why. Then, at that point, he can take himself and his “Children of the Corn”-looking offspring, and exit stage left.

Comey keeps his head

Palisades Park, N.J.: Voicer Regina Elo brings up a good point in that James Comey would not have been fired in some countries; he would have been murdered. However, he is a victim of something that Trump (I’m sorry, I just can’t bring myself to say “President”) is very good at, and that is character assassination. Comey may as well be a dead man now that Trump has done such a good job of smearing his name and destroying his reputation.

Upside of the firing

Brooklyn: There may be a rather large silver lining in the cloud over Pennsylvania Ave. as the FBI director firing sinks in. Now that he is gone, a new director with the gumption and freedom to really investigate things will get the ball rolling. Hopefully, he or she will turn his or her sights not only at the so-called Russian connection, a political diversion made up by Democrats, but the pay-for-play schemes of the Democrats and, of course, their darling, Hillary Clinton. Now that would be an interesting revelation to all, once fully exposed.
