Stephen, Nats top Atlanta

ATLANTA — Stephen Strasburg struck out a season-high 11, allowing five hits in 72/3 innings as the Nats beat the Braves, 3-2, Sunday to stop a four-game skid. Strasburg (5-1) improved to 7-1 in his last nine starts against Atlanta.

BLUE JAYS 3, O’S 1: Marco Estrada (3-2) matched his career high with 12 strikeouts in 72/3 innings as visiting Toronto avoided a three-game sweep.

ROYALS, TWINS SPLIT: Host Minnesota hit three homers to salvage a doublehead­er split with an 8-4 victory. Brandon Moss hit two homers to give the Royals a 6-4 win in the opener.

INDIANS 8, ASTROS 6: Yan Gomes homered and tied a career high with five RBI as visiting Cleveland completed a three-game sweep.

ROCKIES 6, REDS 4: Rookie pitcher Kyle Freeland hit one of visiting Colorado’s four solo homers off Bronson Arroyo (3-4) as the Rockies improved the NL’s best record to 28-17. Cincinnati has lost eight of nine.

PIRATES 1, PHILS 0: Chad Kuhl and four relievers combined on a three-hitter, and host Pittsburgh scratched out the only run of a rainy game when David Freese was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

CARDS 8, GIANTS 3: Matt Carpenter homered and Randal Grichuk drove in four runs for host St. Louis, which stopped a four-game skid.

CUBS 13, BREWERS 6: Kris Bryant homered twice and reached base in all five plate appearance­s, Anthony Rizzo and Ben Zobrist also went deep, and Willson Contreras went 3-for-3 with three RBI for host Chicago.

Milwaukee’s Eric Thames left in the fifth with leg cramping.

RED SOX 12, A’S 3: Mitch Moreland homered in his third straight game, a two-run drive in the sixth off Andrew Triggs (5-3) that landed in the second deck as visiting Boston avoided a four-game sweep.

WHITE SOX 8, MARINERS 1: Yolmer Sanchez had a two-run single in visiting Chicago’s five-run first. Seattle has lost three straight.

DODGERS 6, MARLINS 3: Brandon McCarthy (4-1) retired his first 14 batters before Derek Dietrich’s double and allowed one run and three hits in six innings for the host Dodgers.

RANGERS 5, TIGERS 2: Mike Napoli homered to the camera platform beyond center for visiting Texas.

PADRES 5, D-BACKS 1: Clayton Richard (3-5) pitched a five-hitter and struck out six as host San Diego ended a five-game losing streak.
