But it’s the New Jersey second-grader who’s sending birthday greetings to her dad (photo below with her), whom she last saw on Christmas Day 2015. In a heartbreaking note (inset) to Reyes, the girl writes, “Hi Papi, my birthday is almost here and I want to see you. I miss you! I want to meet my sisters and can you buy me a Dog. Love, Liyah.” We’re told that the letter was sent last week, but there’s been no response from Reyes. “She’s been asking for a dog forever,” her mom told us by phone. “One of the last conversations her dad had with her, she asked for a dog and he said, ‘You’re too young for a dog.’ So she asked me if she could send him a letter now that she’s older.” According to Christina, a Latin pop singer, the idea popped into Liyah’s head when they were eating at a local Outback Steakhouse and she saw her dad come up to bat on one of the eatery’s TVs. The Met vet notched his 2,000th career hit over the weekend. We’re told that Reyes last spoke with Liyah shortly after her birthday last year. According to the tyke’s mom, Reyes gave them “a nice” amount of cash that the two of them used to embark on an “island hopping” vacation in the Florida Keys. This year, Christina and Liyah will head to Puerto Rico for a Memorial Day weekend birthday celebration and mom will be charging the trip to her credit card.
Sanchez and her attorney will be back in court on June 5 to continue pushing for an increase in child support. Sanchez now gets $11,500 per month, but is asking for $41,000.
According to Sanchez, the increase in support is Plan B. She mostly wants Reyes to get reinvolved in her daughter’s upbringing and introduce her to the three girls he has with
his wife of eight years.
“There’s no connection between him and me anymore,” Christina insists. “I just want him to be a man and step up to the plate for his daughter.”
The Mets did not respond to a request for comment.
