Oops, I just shot myself & my date

-

AN OFF-DUTY city correction officer accidentally fired a shot in a Hell’s Kitchen restaurant Tuesday night, hitting himself in the finger and a woman in the foot, police sources and witnesses said.

The officer and the woman were sitting at a small back table in the Mamasita Bar & Grill on Tenth Ave. by W. 54th St. at about 8 p.m., when customers and employees heard a bang.

“There was a shot, and he started yelling, ‘My hand! My hand!’ ” said one employee of the restaurant. “The gentleman said, ‘I dropped the gun, and it went off.’ I looked down, and she was shot in the foot.”

Witnesses saw the woman, who appeared to be in her 30s, with her right foot bandaged and bloodied as medics loaded her into an ambulance. Both were taken to Bellevue Hospital. Their injuries were not believed to be lifethreatening.

“He’s a regular customer and a good guy,” Prakash Hundalami, the restaurant’s owner, said of the officer.

“He had a beer at the bar, just a few sips. Then he went to use the bathroom,” Hundalami said. “He bent down to pick something up and his gun fell out. It went off and hit his finger and shot a woman in the foot."

Hundalami added, “He wasn’t drunk. He didn’t get to finish his beer. He only had a few sips.”

Shortly after the shooting, customers remained inside the restaurant, watching the Yankees game on television.
