Sans Ellsbury, Joe makes do

-

TORONTO — Despite being a man short, it seems like the Yankees are set in the outfield. “I think we’re OK,” Joe Girardi said prior to Sunday’s 3-2 loss to the Blue Jays at Rogers Centre. “It works for the dynamics of the team right now.”

Jacoby Ellsbury will see the neurologist on Monday, since his headaches related to his May 24 concussion have returned. The 33-year-old is expected to address the media on Tuesday, according to the team.

Rob Refsnyder may get a game or two in the outfield this week as a way to give Brett Gardner a day off against a lefty. The Yankees face Red Sox southpaws Drew Pomeranz on Tuesday and David Price on Thursday.

The Yankees had been able to rotate between Ellsbury, Gardner and Aaron Hicks as a way to keep the veterans fresh. Aaron Judge has played in 52 of the team’s first 54 games.

Refsnyder started at first base on Sunday. Mason Williams, currently at Triple-A Scranton, is on the 40-man roster and has major-league experience as a fourth outfielder.

WORD ON BIRD

Greg Bird (ankle) appeared in his fourth minor-league rehab game on Sunday, and went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored at Class-A Tampa.

Bird has been alternating between first base and DH. The Yankees want to see Bird get his swing back before he returns to the majors. There is currently no timetable for his return.

“Physically, he has had no complaints,” Girardi said . ... The Bombers are 11-13 following a 21-9 start. The Yankees went without a homer for the 14th time this season on Sunday. … They are 15-14 on the road. … ... The Yankees traded infielder Ruben Tejada to the Orioles for cash considerations. The ex-Met was playing in Triple-A Scranton.
