- Denis Slattery

POLICE IN Westchester County are investigating the suspicious death of a 7-year-old girl found in her New Rochelle home on Tuesday, according to reports.

The girl was discovered at 3:18 p.m. by police who responded to a call about a man bleeding from wounds on his wrists at a townhouse in a complex called Arbor Glen, according to lohud.com.

The man, believed to be the girl’s father, was taken to a nearby hospital.

Lohud reported that the girl was a second-grader at William B. Ward Elementary School.

“The city school district of New Rochelle and Ward School are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of one our students. The student’s family is in all of our thoughts and prayers,” the school district said in a statement.

“It is important for both schools and families to support them by listening to them carefully and helping them through their feelings.”

The school will be open Wednesday with a crisis team in place that includes grief counselors to assist staff and students.

Police did not say what caused the young girl’s death, but said it is being investigated as suspicious.

The Westchester County medical examiner’s office and district attorney’s office were involved in the investigation.

The medical examiner will determine the exact cause of death.
