Recognizing Kremlin interference is “not about Republicans or Democrats,” Comey said.

“They’re coming after America, which I hope we all love equally. They want to undermine our credibility in the face of the world. They think that this great experiment of ours is a threat to them. And so they’re going to try to run it down and dirty it up as much as possible.”

Comey, stating firmly he had no doubt Russia sought to interfere in the 2016 election and was behind the Democratic National Committee and Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee hacks, also warned that the Russian intrusion not a one-off.

“Oh, it is a longterm practice of theirs,” he said. “It’s stepped up a notch in a significant way in ’16. They’ll be back.”

His testimony counters Trump’s at times aggressive assertions that the specter of Russian interference in the elec- tion is nothing more than a fantasy constructed by Democrats to undermine his administration.

Trump’s son-in-law and adviser Jared Kushner is also reportedly of interest in the probe. Both Kushner and Attorney General Jeff Sessions failed to disclose several meetings with Russian officials either during the campaign or as Trump was preparing to take over the White House.

All have denied collusion in Russian efforts to skew the election.

“The Russia-Trump collusion story is a total hoax, when will this taxpayer funded charade end?” Trump tweeted last month.
