Liberty’s late run tips Storm

TINA Charles notched 21 points and 14 rebounds and the host Liberty used a late 12-1 burst to beat the Seattle Storm, 94-86, on Sunday for its fourth straight victory.

With the Liberty (6-3) trailing 83-80 with 3:05 left, Bria Hartley tapped the ball to Shavonte Zellous to hit a 3-pointer that tied it and started the game-ending burst. On the next play, she stripped the ball from Jewell Loyd and then converted the layup on the other end that gave the Libs the lead for good.

Breanna Stewart, the UConn product, finished with 23 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Storm (5-4). Sue Bird added a season-high 21 points.

BERGER’S 66 TAKES ST. JUDE

Daniel Berger shot a 4-under 66 to erase a three-shot deficit and win the St. Jude Classic in Memphis for a second straight year. The 24-year-old is the fourth back-toback winner at St. Jude.

Berger’s 17-foot birdie putt on No. 15 put him ahead for good and he finished at 10-under 270. South African Charl Schwartzel (66) and South Korean Whee Kim (67) tied for second, one shot back.

l Ariya Jutanugarn of Thailand won the Manulife LPGA Classic in Cambridge, Ontario, with a birdie on the first playoff hole to beat American Lexi Thompson and South Korea’s In Gee Chun. Jutanugarn finished with a 3-under 69 to tie Thompson (72) and Chun (70) at 17-under 271. Thompson, who started the day with a one-shot lead, led by four at the turn but stumbled on the back nine with four bogeys. She three-putted from 35 feet on the 18th and missed a four-footer that could have given her the victory.

BLANEY WINS AT POCONO

Ryan Blaney held off Kevin Harvick down the stretch and won his first NASCAR Cup race, at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pa. The 23-year-old Blaney, a third-generation driver, won for the first time in 68 career starts. Darrell Wallace Jr. finished a lap down in 26th in the first start by a black driver in the Cup series since 2006.

U.S. TIES MEXICO

Michael Bradley scored a stunning early goal from about 40 yards and the U.S. hung on for a 1-1 tie against Mexico in a World Cup qualifier on Sunday night, gaining only its third point at Azteca Stadium in Mexico City as coach Bruce Arena changed seven starters and used a five-man defense to overcome the thin air and short recovery time.
