7 U.S. soldiers hurt by Afghan
SEVEN U.S. soldiers were wounded Saturday when an Afghan comrade attacked them at a base in northern Afghanistan, the second insider assault on American troops in the past week.
One Afghan soldier was killed and another was wounded in the attack, U.S. forces based in Kabul said. A military spokesman also denied earlier claims by the Afghan army that four U.S. soldiers had been killed.
The shooting broke out around 2 p.m. local time at Camp Shaheen, where a German-led group of international advisers is based, located in the city of Mazar-iSharif. The military base is one of the nation’s largest, and the headquarters for its army’s 209th Corps.
In April, the base was breached by 10 Taliban militants, who detonated explosives and shot at unarmed Afghan troops. Some reports indicated that more than 200 soldiers were killed, while the Taliban claimed an unconfirmed 500 deaths.
