Transparency bill goes too far: Blaz
THE CITY’S counterterrorism boss and the mayor slammed a City Council bill that would require the NYPD to disclose details of its surveillance technology.
Mayor de Blasio, speaking to radio host John Catsimatidis on “The Cats Roundtable,” said Sunday it’s possible to be too transparent.
“If we start to lay out everything we do to gather information to fight crime and fight terrorism, if we lay that out too publicly and in too much detail, unfortunately, it provides a road map for the bad guys,” he said.
Council members in favor of the bill argue that the police have been resistant to transparency.
NYPD counterterrorism chief John Miller said the bill would provide “one-stop shopping” for terrorists seeking details on police tactics.
