A ‘special’ Dad’s Day for Scalise
FATHER’S DAY was extra special for Rep. Steve Scalise’s family, just days after the congressman survived getting shot during practice for a baseball game.
“Steve’s greatest joy is being a father to Madison and Harrison, and a husband to Jennifer. This Father’s Day has special meaning for the Scalise family, and they send their best wishes to every family, especially the dads,” read a statement tweeted from the Louisiana Republican’s account.
The House majority whip, 51, arrived at the hospital Wednesday “in critical condition with an imminent risk of death” after a GOPloathing gunman opened fire on two dozen ballplaying Republicans in Alexandria, Va., doctors and authorities said. Scalise was hit in the hip. His condition was upgraded Saturday from critical to serious following multiple surgeries.
Gunman James Hodgkinson, a former home inspector who had a hit list of GOP lawmakers in his pocket, sprayed the field with bullets and was killed by Capitol security. He had been a volunteer for Sen. Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign.
“I just want to wish Rep. Scalise a very, very quick recovery,” Sanders said. “There should not be any violence associated with politics in America.”
