Badgered by NYC, he tries to be a Knick

Nigel Hayes, the Wisconsin forwardwho trashed New York as “dirty” during the NCAA tournament, will reportedly play with the Knicks in summer league.

Hayes went undrafted Thursday and agreed to a training camp deal with the Knicks with a partial guarantee, multiple outlets reported Friday morning.

In March, Hayes visited the city to face Florida in a Sweet 16 matchup at the Garden — and he wasn’t impressed.

“I don’t really like New York,” Hayes said. “It’s too big, it’s dirty, there’s trash everywhere, too many people. It’s cold right now.”

The 6-foot-8 Hayes, who worked out for the Knicks before the draft, added at the time: “I guess it’s nice to look at in the movies, but I’ve had my fair share.”

Hayes, who averaged 14 points, 6 rebounds and 2.7 assists last year, is known for speaking his mind, especially when it comes to collegiate athletes not being paid as well as racial injustice.

In October, the senior held up a “Broke College Athlete, Anything Helps” sign on national TV asking people to send money to a Venmo account.

“We’re not student-athletes. We’re here to play sports,” Hayes said at Big Ten media day. “Some of us are missing class to be here right now. In some respect, they’re making money off us right now.”

Then in November, after Wisconsin fans showed up to a football game wearing a mask of President Barack Obama with a noose around his neck while being led around with another man wearing a Donald Trump mask, Hayes demanded change on Twitter.

“That moment was like a punch in the face to not only student-athletes of color, but also current students, faculty and alumni of color,” Hayes wrote. “This incident was yet another blow and reminder that there are people in this community that may not value diverse populations.”
