IS ROB-HURT!

-

MIAMI — The Mets are back on the East Coast and back to the reality of their 2017 season. After sweeping the lowly Giants this weekend, the Mets crashed back to earth with a 6-3 loss to the Marlins. And, of course, it came with yet another injury. Robert Gsellman left the game in the fourth inning with what the team is calling a left hamstring strain and is likely headed for the disabled list. “Another frustrating night as far as injuries go,” Terry Collins said. Gsellman had already put the Mets in a 3-2 hole before he left. The 23-year-old gave up three runs in the first inning, a typical problem for him. He has now allowed 18 earned runs in 14 first innings this season.

While Paul Sewald did stellar emergency work to give the Mets three scoreless innings, their defense and their bullpen imploded in the seventh. Neil Ramirez was charged with two runs and Jerry Blevins with another. A hopper got past Lucas Duda and Wilmer Flores made a “bad read,” on a ball up the middle.

Curtis Granderson had given the struggling Gsellman a 1-0 lead with his 45th career leadoff home run. His shot off Dan Straily was his third leadoff dinger this season and franchise-leading 21st as a Met. Travis d’Arnaud had just cut the Marlins lead to a run with an RBI single when Gsellman went down. He jogged out of the box when he first hit the slow roller, but seemed to try and kick up the speed when the ball got by Straily. That was when he grimaced in pain and pulled up.

J.T. Riddle’s slick double play in the seventh. He made a sliding grab of Curtis Granderson’s ground ball, got up and beat pinch hitter Brandon Nimmo for the force at second and then threw out Granderson at first.

Neil Ramirez was charged with two runs and Jerry Blevins with another in the Marlins’ three-run seventh inning that broke open a tied game. Christian Yelich went 3-for-4 with two RBI.

STAT oF THE DAY

With Curtis Granderson’s leadoff homer, the Mets have now homered in 32 of 35 games away from Citi Field.

UNSUNG HERo

Travis d’Arnaud drove in two of the Mets’ three runs, hitting his ninth home run of the season.

Jerry Blevins was charged with just one run, but it was his fifth run in his last seven innings pitched.
