Blaz’s GOP foe hits ‘scare’ on cops & deports

- Erin Durkin

MAYOR DE BLASIO’S Republican challenger accused him of using “scare tactics” for sending out a fund-raising email warning that she’d “turn the NYPD into Donald Trump’s personal deportation force.”

“It is sad and unfortunate that Bill de Blasio and his campaign use scare tactics in a cynical attempt to raise campaign cash and have now dragged the NYPD into their tall tale,” Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis of Staten Island said Monday.

Malliotakis became the presumptive GOP nominee for mayor last week when rival Paul Massey dropped out. De Blasio quickly moved to tie her to Trump.

“What we need to do is send a powerful message, right out of the gate, that we will never allow her to turn the NYPD into Donald Trump’s personal deportation force,,” de Blasio campaign manager Rick Fromberg wrote in an email to supporters Sunday, asking them to chip in $3 for Hizzoner’s reelection campaign.

Malliotakis voted for Trump in the general election but served as the New York campaign chair for Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida during the GOP presidential primary.

She opposes New York’s “sanctuary city” policy, which bars officials from turning unauthorized immigrants arrested for most offenses over to the feds. She said the mayor’s “efforts to paint me as an ally of Donald Trump borders on the ridiculous.”
