‘Chris: Got a bridge to sell ya’

-

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie will be seated in the big chair next week at WFAN, as an audition to potentially replace Mike Francesa when the longtime host leaves the station in December. Here’s an imagining of some of the calls the embattled former presidential candidate might hear over the airwaves if he takes the gig.

l “Governor, Betances has been a mess lately. What do you think the Yankees should do about the ‘bridge’ to Chapman?”

l “Hey, Chris, since you know all about shutting stuff down, when do you think the Mets should shut down Wheeler this year?”

l “Mr. Christie, what did you think of Cris Carter telling the NFL rookies that you always should have a fall guy to take the rap for you?”

l “Hi, first time, long time. Do you think Carmelo should take his talents to South Beach? Or did you close that beach to everyone except your family, too?”

l “Thanks for taking my call. Anyone with an approval rating as low as Phil Jackson’s had to go, right?”

Christie, who currently sports a record-low 15% approval rating as Garden State governor, will be shooting for higher ratings when he co-hosts WFAN’s coveted drive-time slot from 2-6:30 p.m. angry and incredulous reactions from listeners, which is what sports-talk radio is all about.

If he had any self-deprecating sense of humor, however, he would go into every commercial break by announcing the return of the FAN Highway Patrol helicopter and saying, “Now it’s time for some traffic problems on the other side of the GW Bridge in Fort Lee.”
