‘Fat-a--’, ‘communist’ comments highlight Christie’s WFAN tryout

- BY JUSTIN TASCH

THINGS STARTED getting embarrassing in hour two of Chris Christie’s WFAN trial on Monday, when the he was referred to as “fat-a--” by a well-known caller and he responded by calling them a “communist.” Mike from Montclair went after the New Jersey governor for going to a beach closed to the public last week. The exchange only devolved from there. “Governor, next time you want to sit on a beach that is closed to the entire world but you, you get your fat a-- in a car and go to one that is open to all of your constituents, not just you and yours,” the caller said. Needless to say, that didn’t go over well with Christie. “I love getting calls from communists in Montclair,” he responded. “Communists in Montclair?” Mike said. “You’re a bully, Governor, and I don’t like bullies.” Christie then said the caller was a “bum.” After a back-and-forth about “optics,” Christie said, “You know what, Mike? What matters is what you do,” to which Mike replied, “What have you done?”

“What I just did was stop polluting the airwaves with a guy like that,” Christie said before the caller was disconnected.

Earlier, a different caller said he’s among the 85% of people in New Jersey who don’t approve of the job Christie is doing.

That caller brought up Christie’s support for Donald Trump, whom the caller described as a “treasonous weasel.” Regarding Hillary Clinton losing the election, Christie said, “I’m enormously relieved we don’t have a criminal in the White House.”

Christie, who has been on the Boomer and Carton program previously, is auditioning as WFAN tries different combinations in search of a replacement for longtime drive-time host Mike Francesa, who is leaving in December.

Christie was being referred to by co-host Evan Roberts and update man John Minko as “The Governor,” with no mention of the politician’s record-low approval rating.

Roberts insisted they would be hosting a sports show, and they largely focused on the current mess the Knicks are in during the opening segment. Christie said anyone who thinks James Dolan isn’t calling all the shots regardless of who the team’s GM or president is, “is kidding themselves.”
