Marshall pulls exit on interview

- BY EVAN GROSSMAN

Giants receiver Brandon Marshall abruptly walked out of a radio interview when the subject turned to race Thursday morning.

Appearing on a remote broadcast of WEEI’s “Kirk & Callahan Show,” Marshall was upset when the interview veered towards race and comments he made in 2015 about how white and black players are treated differently.

“I’m not getting into the race card with you guys,” Marshall said. “So if that’s what you guys want to do you can go there, but black guys in America get treated differently, period, so I’ll just say that. Black guys in America get treated differently.”

After the interview started off harmlessly enough with banter about how bad the Jets are going to be this season, things got testy when Marshall didn’t appreciate the line of questioning. Two years ago amid the Tom Brady Deflategate scandal, Marshall said on “Inside the NFL” that many players believe white and black players are disciplined differently by the league.

“White players, specifically at the quarterback position, are treated differently,” Marshall said.

This week, Marshall presumably didn’t want to go there with the two white hosts of a radio show broadcast in Boston, a city that came under fire earlier this year after MLB players complained of racist taunts at Fenway Park.

“We done with this interview?” Marshall said. “Can I get off of this interview? Alright, I’m done with you guys.

“Come on, man, you’re going back to a year ago, brother. You guys made news now. You got Brandon Marshall to say black guys get treated differently and I’m going to drop the mic on you guys. Change the subject or I’m getting off. I’m dropping the mic.”

They changed the subject and seconds later, when the hosts brought up Marshall’s long history of domestic violence, which they believe he’s gotten a pass for because he’s admitted to being bipolar, Marshall had heard enough. “Ah, s--t,” Marshall said. “I’m done with you guys.” Marshall then pulled off his headphones, got up, and accidentally spilled his coffee on a computer. He apologized for the spill, tried to help clean up the mess and walked off.
