-

BALTIMORE — Jose Quintana dazzled in his debut for the Chicago Cubs, striking out a seasonhigh 12 in seven sharp innings to beat the Baltimore Orioles 8-0 Sunday for a three-game sweep.

Acquired by the World Series champions during the All-Star break from the Chicago White Sox for a playoff push, Quintana gave the Cubs exactly the kind of boost they hoped to get. The lefty ace allowed three hits, walked none and joined Matt Garza as the only pitchers in Cubs history to fan 12 in their debut.

NATIONALS 14, REDS 4: Daniel Murphy hit two of visiting Washington’s five home runs and had five RBI to lead the Nationals past Cincinnati.

Earlier in the day, looking to fortify a bullpen that has blown more than a third of its save chances, Washington acquired relievers Ryan Madson and Sean Doolittle from the Oakland Athletics for righthander Blake Treinen and a pair of prospects.

Lefthander Jesus Luzardo and infielder Sheldon Neuse were sent to Oakland as part of the deal.

DODGERS 3, MARLINS 2: Justin Turner homered and singled to increase his batting average to .374, and visiting Los Angeles extended its winning streak to nine games by beating Miami.

MARINERS 7, WHITE SOX 6 (10): Nelson Cruz homered on a 3-0 pitch to lead off the 10th inning and visiting Seattle beat Chicago for a three-game sweep.

ANGELS 4, RAYS 3: Pinch hitter C.J. Cron connected for a tiebreaking, two-run homer in the eighth inning and the Angels escaped a jam in the ninth to hold off Tampa Bay in Anaheim.

PADRES 7, GIANTS 1: Hector Sanchez and Corey Spangenberg each hit a three-run home run off Jeff Samardzija and host San Diego took two of three from San Francisco.

ATHLETICS 7, INDIANS 3: Cleveland starter Trevor Bauer got just two outs in a four-run first inning and matched the shortest start of his big league career as host Oakland beat the Indians to complete a surprising sweep of the AL Central leader.
