Missile-defense test in Pacific
KODIAK, Alaska — The U.S. is planning to test a missile-defense system meant to counter threats from North Korea.
The Kodiak Island launch is scheduled for the Pacific Spaceport Complex-Alaska, according to a Coast Guard notice. Mariners are advised to remain clear of swaths of ocean between the island and Hawaii throughout next weekend.
The U.S. Missile Defense Agency successfully tested the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense system from Kodiak Island earlier this month. That test “validated THAAD’s ability to intercept intermediate range ballistic missiles,” said Chris Johnson of the defense agency.
