When you tune in to NBC to watch the British Open be prepared. They won’t call it “The British Open.” The fossils who run the tournament’s governing body prefer leaving the word “British” out of the title. Who wouldn’t want to call the most prestigious golf event on that continent, and one of the sports historic touchstones, “The British Open?” Wonder how many hours they debated this in the club secretary’s office?
