Feds using ‘Bro’ emails against him
BROOKLYN federal prosecutors wound down their securities fraud case against Martin Shkreli Tuesday — by giving jurors a peek at his tart-tongued exchanges with lawyers and staff when dealing with impatient investors looking to get their money.
Prosecutors say the so-called Pharma Bro swindled hedge fund investors — and then misappropriated money and stocks at his pharmaceutical company, Retrophin, to pay them back.
To drive home the point, prosecutors called FBI Special Agent Michael Braconi to read Shkreli’s email exchanges with various people, including Retrophin’s lawyer Evan Greebel.
In one case, Greebel relayed an investor’s demand for certain stock terms.
“Take from anyone. I don’t care. Do the math,” Shkreli (photo) replied.
Closing arguments in the approximately four-week trial are expected Thursday. On Monday, Shkreli let a JAY-Z rhyme represent why he’s not testifying.
“Plead the fif when it comes to the fam im like a dog i dont speak but i understand,” he posted on his Facebook page Monday night.
The line was from JAY-Z’s 2001 song “Never Change.”
