OK, this will be Donald’s real A-team
REP. PETE KING: WE DIDN’T EVEN KNOW
AS PRESIDENT Trump announced the ouster of Reince Priebus and the appointment of Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly to chief of staff, politicos scrambled to make sense of who’s in and who’s out.
No doubt it’s hard to keep track these days.
While some are crediting the shakeup to new White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci, make no mistake: Trump is taking matters into his own hands.
Frustrated by a “first 100 days” that fell wildly short of expectations, combined with a West Wing that was leaking like a sieve, Trump is crafting the senior White House staff he originally wanted. This is his first casting of “The Apprentice: White House Edition.”
Trump gave the insiders a chance. They failed. Now, he’s going to do things his way.
As for Friday’s pick of Kelly, no one should be surprised. Trump favors two types of leaders: CEOs and generals.
As for Priebus, the former chairman of the Republican National Committee who hailed from Kenosha, Wis., never really stood a chance. He had one primary thing going for him: He came with the promise to leverage great relationships on Capitol Hill. After all, in the 2014 midterms it was Priebus who helped the GOP win their greatest number of congressional seats in American history.
But in politics, you’re only as good as your last win. And it had been a while since Priebus had a victory, any small victory. So, as the clock counted down on the failed repeal and replacement of Obamacare on Thursday night, Priebus’ time was up.
Fair warning to White House staff: This is not a week you want to be called into the boardroom.
