Don: Knock gangsters around

- BY RICH SCHAPIRO, MARY MCDONELL and JILLIAN JORGENSEN

PRESIDENT TRUMP delivered a tough-talking speech in Long Island Friday filled with a vow to crush the MS-13 gang, an apparent dig at Mayor de Blasio and an appeal to police to rough up suspects in custody.

“When you see these towns, and you see these thugs being thrown into the back of a paddy wagon . . . I said, ‘Please don’t be too nice,” Trump told a group of police cadets assembled at Suffolk County Community College in Brentwood.

“Like when you guys put somebody in the car and you’re protecting their head. . . You can take your hand away, OK?”

The remark drew sustained applause and cheers from the cadets.

But it didn’t go over well with Suffolk County police brass.

“The SCPD has strict rules & procedures relating to the handling of prisoners. Violations of those rules are treated extremely seriously,” it said in a statement on Twitter.

“As a department, we do not and will not tolerate (the) roughing up of prisoners.”

The crowd was more reserved when Trump insisted that he was bent on dismantling the Central American-based gang that has ravaged parts of Long Island.

“We’re going to destroy the vile cartel MS-13,” Trump said.

“They have transformed peaceful parks and beautiful neighborhoods into bloodstained killing fields. They’re animals.”

In between his promises to wipe out gangs and build an impenetrable border wall, Trump took a veiled shot at de Blasio.

The President said he’s met police officers who aren’t allowed to do their job because “they have a pathetic mayor or a mayor that doesn’t know what’s going on.”

The crowd of cadets broke into applause.

“Were you applauding for someone in particular?” Trump said with a shake of the head. “It’s sad. It’s sad,” he added. A de Blasio spokesman immediately shot back, suggesting Trump was lashing out because he was bitter over the GOP health care collapse.

“It appears the defeat of his biggest agenda item has really upset the President,” said Austin Finan.

“He needs to get a grip. The truth is the women and men of the NYPD are doing their jobs better and more
