Spewing to Mexican, Aussie leaders

- Here is President Trump in his January calls to Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto and Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull. From transcripts published by The Washington Post:

and both of our societies."

It was in that conversation that Trump trashed New Hampshire, a state he won in the Republican primaries but lost in the general election.

“(We) have the druglords in Mexico that are knocking the hell out of our country,” Trump said.

“Up in New Hampshire — I won New Hampshire because New Hampshire is a drug-infested den.”

Both of New Hampshire’s Democratic senators slammed Trump for the takedown.

“It’s absolutely unacceptable for the President to be talking about NH in this way — a gross misrepresentation of NH,” Sen. Jeanne Shaheen tweeted.

A day later, Trump’s talk with Turnbull turned testy, after Trump rejected the Obama administration’s agreement to take in refugees.

Trump told Turnbull (photo right) that the agreement to accept 1,250 refugees would open him up to political criticism.

“Boy, that will make us look awfully bad,” Trump said. “Here I am calling for a ban where I am not letting anybody in and we take 2,000 people.”

“I am the world’s greatest person that does not want to let people into the country,” he said.

Trump lost patience as Turnbull tried explaining the deal, and he eventually lashed out at his Australian ally.

Turnbull offered to switch topics to Syria and North Korea, but Trump ended the call moments later.

Reports of the testy Turnbull talk surfaced in February, but both men downplayed it.

“Thank you to Prime Minister of Australia for telling the truth about our very civil conversation that FAKE NEWS media lied about. Very nice!” Trump tweeted at the time. The White House declined to comment on the transcripts. A top Democrat called on Congress to investigate the leak that led to the publication of the transcripts. Sen. Mark Warner of Virginia, the top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, said such “disgraceful” leaks compromise the White House’s ability to conduct foreign policy. Among the common themes in both conversations was Trump’s election victory. “I won with a large percentage of Hispanic voters,” Trump told Peña Nieto. “I do not know if you heard, but with Cuba, I had 84%, with the Cuban-American vote. But overall generally, I had well over 30% and everyone was shocked to see this. I understand the community and they understand me, and I have a great respect for the Mexican people.”
