Live free or cry foul at insult to N.H.

SAY WHAT, MR. PRESIDENT?

- BY REUVEN BLAU

THE GRANITE STATE wants an apology from President Trump.

New Hampshire — dissed by the President as a “drug-infested den” — exploded in indignation Thursday, led by Sen. Jeanne Shaheen who demanded Trump take back the insult.

“It’s absolutely unacceptable for the President to be talking about NH in this way — a gross misrepresentation of NH,” Shaheen (photo right), a Democrat, tweeted.

Trump sparked the ire of the “Live Free or Die” state after a transcript of a conversation he had with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto was published by The Washington Post.

“We have a massive drug problem where kids are becoming addicted to drugs because the drugs are being sold for less money than candy,” Trump said. “I won New Hampshire because New Hampshire is a drug-infested den.”

Trump won the New Hampshire GOP primary in February 2016. But he lost the general election to Hillary Clinton.

New Hampshire, like many states in the country, is battling a major spike in fatal drug overdoses. There were approximately 400 such deaths last year, the highest tally in the state’s history.

At the same time, the state has struggled to assist addicts. The sparse number of treatment facilities ranked second to last in the entire country, better only than Texas, according to a 2014 report by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

On Thursday, New Hampshire Democrat Sen. Maggie Hassan (photo left) also ripped Trump on Twitter.

She called his remarks about her state “disgusting.”

“As he knows, NH and states across America have a substance misuse crisis.”
