Plea to ICE: Free immig who ID’d my son’s killers

has been detained ever since, as part of President Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigrants.

“If there’s somewhere I need to go to testify on his behalf, or if I can go visit him somewhere, tell me when and where and I will be there to do what I can for him,” Cuetlach said.

Acting Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez also sent a letter on Thursday to the Department of Homeland Security, urging officials to release Siguencia Hurtado.

Siguencia Hurtado crossed the Mexican border in 2002. He was arrested in 2004 for harassment and statutory rape. The cases were dismissed. The alleged victim in the rape case is now his wife.

He kept a low profile since a federal immigration judge ordered him removed from the country in 2005, after he failed to appear in court for a deportation proceeding. He quietly built a life in Brooklyn — he has a 5-month-old son and a 10-yearold daughter with his wife.

That changed when Cuetlach’s 20-year-old son, Abel Xochimitl, was fatally stabbed outside a Bensonhurst nightclub on July 14, 2012, after his killers mistook him for a rival gang member.

Siguencia Hurtado, a livery driver, witnessed the murder while waiting outside the club. Two weeks later, he spotted the killers and called police.

Despite threats, he testified at their trial. He also provided statements to the the DA’s office in another 2012 homicide in which three suspects eventually pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

Siguencia Hurtado came forward to authorities in 2014 to gain permanent status. Until last month, the feds had allowed him to remain free while his legal team tried to vacate his removal order and get him a visa.

“We are so grateful to this man and the truth is, he doesn’t deserve this,” Cuetlach said. “Not even our family supported us like William did.”
