Adams not worried about ankle sprain

-

Rookie safety Jamal Adams suffered a sprained ankle during 7-on-7 drills Thursday at Jets training camp. Adams did not participate in 11-on-11 periods. Todd Bowles was unsure of the severity of the injury, but he doesn’t believe Adams will need an MRI.

“I don’t know how bad or how much he sprained it,” Bowles said. “But I know he sprained it, so we kept him out.”

Adams — who the Jets drafted with the No. 6 overall pick out of LSU — downplayed the injury in a tweet later Thursday evening.

“I’m okay,” the 21-yearold wrote. “God is good!”

Adams spent the remainder of practice — about an hour-anda-half — on the sideline with his helmet off. He kneeled on one knee while watching the team drills.

Earlier this week, Adams called the football field the “perfect place to die” at a Jets fan forum inside the team’s facility. The comments came in response to a question from a season-ticket holder about chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), the degenerative brain disease linked with repeated hits to the head.

Adams received backlash for the response, including from Keana McMahon, the ex-wife of former Steelers offensive lineman Justin Strzelczyk, who was diagnosed with CTE after his death in 2004. Adams clarified his answer Tuesday, saying his words were “simply about passion.”

Bowles is confident the past few days will serve as a learning experience for Adams.

“You knew what he meant,” Bowles said. “But here in the city, in New York especially, when you misstep and make a mistake with a quote or something like that, they’re going to take it and run.… He’s young. He’ll get experience, and he’ll get better.”
