Climate of fear in report

- BY NICOLE HENSLEY

THE EARTH’S landscapes and oceans will most certainly be troubled by warming temperatures in the 21st century, according to a climate change report that awaits the approval of President Trump’s administration and may itself be doomed.

Scientists from more than a dozen federal agencies fear the document, which was described to The New York Times, will never see the light of day.

Their data challenge an administration that’s been dismantling former President Barack Obama’s environmental legacy. Trump has called climate change a hoax.

The paper warns temperatures will increase by at least a half-degree Fahrenheit by the end of the century, even if humans immediately stopped sending greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, The Times reported.

Meteorologists have recorded increasingly warm temperatures since the 1960s, and heat waves are now more common than streaks of stinging cold weather.

The National Academy of Sciences releases a similar assessment every four years and has already approved the final draft, according to The Times.

Trump withdrew the U.S. from the internationally supported Paris Climate Agreement in June.
