Chris, Mets Flex their muscles
The Mets were Flexen their muscles on Tuesday night.
Three early home runs helped power 23-year-old righthander Chris Flexen to his first major-league victory as the Mets topped the Rangers, 5-4.
Michael Conforto led the first off with a homer and Yoenis Cespedes followed with his own solo shot before Travis d’Arnaud’s two-run homer in the second. The Mets (50-60) snapped a streak of four straight losses and seven losses in eight games.
In his Citi Field debut, Flexen gave up three runs in 5 2/3 innings on four hits, three walks and a hit by pitch while striking out four on 89 pitches. He blanked Texas for four innings before Joey Gallo’s homer in the fifth, Adrian Beltre’s homer in the sixth and a Gallo RBI double in the sixth. Flexen’s first two career starts lasted just three innings apiece.
Cespedes’ home run was just his third in his last 34 games (33 starts.)
