THEY ARGUED constantly, but their fatal encounter started with a silent hard stare.

That’s when a mentally ill Brooklyn man began to stab a roommate to death, chasing her through the apartment they shared, police sources said Thursday.

When officers showed up at the Bay Ridge home Wednesday morning, Annmarie Vardy, 52, was on the living room floor, covered in blood.

Her alleged attacker, Michael Dunne, 42, surrendered quietly. He has not yet been charged.

Sources said Dunne is schizophrenic but did not visit his doctor or take his medication regularly.

Sources also said he argued constantly with the victim about their living arrangements. Dunne’s 19-year-old daughter and mother also lived with them for the past three years. Both witnessed the attack, sources said, but neither was harmed.

Minutes before the fatal encounter, Vardy was in the kitchen, making breakfast before work, when Dunne entered, stared at her and attacked, sources said.

Vardy ran for her life, screaming for help, but Dunne allegedly caught her and stabbed her again. THIS DRIVER was uber mad.
