ROTATION FOR RED SOX

-

The Yankees will start Jaime Garcia on Friday, Luis Severino on Saturday and there is a “real good possibility” Jordan Montgomery starts on Sunday, Joe Girardi said.

Montgomery is supposed to start on Saturday for Triple-A Scranton, but CC Sabathia suffered from right knee pain in Toronto on Tuesday. Sabathia’s MRI came back clean, but Girardi wants to talk with him when the Bombers return home on Friday. It’s possible the Yankees could still decide to DL Sabathia.

Montgomery, 24, is 7-6 with a 4.05 ERA in 115.2 innings over 21 starts. Sabathia has an 8.10 ERA in his last three starts, although the Yankees are 13-6 when the 37-year-old lefty pitches in 2017.

Garcia will be making his second start since being dealt to the Yankees. He gave up six runs and walked four over 4.2 innings in his first start on Aug. 4.

Severino has a 0.83 ERA in five starts since the All-Star break.

Girardi said he didn’t want to move Sonny Gray back a day to face Boston since he’d already had a week between starts, which was already concerning. Gray started on Thursday against Toronto.
