Bill still mum on donor info

- BY GREG B. SMITH

A YEAR and three months after promising he’d release a list of donors who got nothing from City Hall, Mayor de Blasio Friday refused to commit to coughing up any names before Primary Day.

De Blasio originally said he’d provide the list in May 2016 as he faced multiple law enforcement investigations of his fund-raising tactics. At the time he said the list was coming “in the coming weeks.” Weeks then turned to months. He made the promise again this spring after federal and state prosecutors declined to bring charges but also made a point of admonishing him for intervening on behalf of donors. This time, he promised to write an “op ed” on the subject by the end of May.

As of Friday, no list has surfaced.

This prompted WNYC host Brian Lehrer to bring up a stunt by de Blasio’s GOP rival, Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis, who’s posting a clock on her website tracking the days the socalled rejected de Blasio donor list remains unseen.

In response to Lehrer, de Blasio called the list “a pretty small thing in the scheme of things” but claimed he still plans to put out an “op ed.” Still, he refused to commit to getting the job done before the September primary, when he will face fellow Dems including former City Councilman Sal Albanese.

When Lehrer asked if he could release his list before the November general election, when he’ll face Malliotakis, he finally gave in with one word: “Sure.”

“It’s a small thing but I’ll get it done,” he said.
