Store manager prevents rape

- Rocco Parascandola

THE MANAGER at a Bronx Walgreens came to a customer’s rescue, saving her from a man trying to rape her in the restroom, police sources said.

The attacker got away, but was seen on surveillance video and is being sought, sources said.

He tried to attack the 50-yearold victim inside the Walgreens at 4401 White Plains Road in Wakefield on Thursday afternoon.

The 50-year-old woman entered the unisex bathroom at about 3:40 p.m., right after the suspect exited it.

When she was done and tried to leave, the suspect, waiting on the other side of the door, pushed her back inside, sources said.

“Get in,” he said, knocking her to the floor.

When she started screaming, he covered her mouth with one hand while shoving his hand down her pants with his other hand, sources said.

But her screams were loud enough to draw the attention of store manager David Aponte, sources said. Aponte rushed into the bathroom and pulled the suspect off the woman.

The suspect then ran off.
