Virginia hate rally
DOZENS OF torch-carrying white nationalists marched through the University of Virginia campus in Charlottesville, Va., on Friday chanting “you will not replace us” and tussling with counterprotesters.
The Ku Klux Klan wannabes, lofting tiki-style torches, traded punches with a group of opponents who had gathered near a statue of Thomas Jefferson, according to The Daily Progress.
At least one person was arrested after police arrived and tried to disperse the crowds, the newspaper reported.
The rally, a curtain-raiser to a larger Unite the Right gathering planned for Saturday, was sparked by Charlottesville’s decision to remove a statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee.
