N.Y. rallies: ‘We beat Nazis before’

-

NEW YORKERS held rallies Sunday in solidarity with protesters in Charlottesville, Va., condemning President Trump for his muted response to deadly violence sparked by white supremacists. Caitlin McKoy, 48, held signs in Columbus Circle that read “No you Klan’t” and “Nope” with a hooded Ku Klux Klan member crossed out. She was one of 200 other protesters. “We can do better in 2017 than allowing a failed ideology to manifest to this degree. We’ve beat t he Nazis before,” she said. The protesters were furious over Trump’s statement denouncing the violence on “many sides” in Virginia. Others rallies were held in Union Square and Brooklyn’s Grand Army Plaza. Cops said they arrested three protesters near Trump Tower on Sunday. All three were charged with disorderly conduct, and one also faces counts of resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration. Marty Maidenberg, 52, wore a “Resist” button and held a sign that said, “Nazis are bad. (I can’t believe we have to tell you this).” “Right now it seems like unless you’re a white straight male, there’s no one in this administration standing for you,” he said.
