No bail on L.I. for susp in 3 hammer slays

- Graham Rayman

THE DERANGED Long Island man accused of murdering his mother, sister and a third woman with a hammer was held without bail Sunday following his arraignment.

Bobby Vanderhall, 34, was arraigned on homicide and assault charges. Vanderhall returns to court on Wednesday, court records show.

He became unhinged after his mother, Lynn Vanderhall, 59, kicked him out of their Hempstead home for violent behavior, prosecutors alleged.

He came home Saturday at about 1 a.m. and found himself locked out. He went to the garage and got a hammer, then bashed his way through the basement door, prosecutors claimed.

Vanderhall allegedly walked upstairs and bludgeoned his mother to death in the living room. He moved to the second floor and killed his sister Melissa Vanderhall, 29, and then Janel Simpson, also 29, officials alleged.

A fourth woman, Candace Murray, escaped the house.

His lawyer did not respond to a request for comment.
