Kid slashed in mosque

- BY JOHN ANNESE

A 6-YEAR-OLD at a Bronx mosque was slashed in the head when a blade-wielding man trying to outrun a fight barreled into him Sunday, police said.

The boy suffered a slash to his forehead after the man ran into the Masjid Salam Mosque on Longwood Ave. at Hewitt Place in Woodstock just after 2 p.m., police sources said.

Medics took the boy to Lincoln Hospital in serious but stable condition.

The child was at weekend classes at the mosque and getting ready to go home when the man ran into him, Imam Mouhemed Sefou told the Daily News.

“The guy entered the mosque. We don’t know what happened,” Sefou said. “We see that four or five guys were chasing him.”

Based on security footage, investigators believe the man dashed into the mosque for shelter to escape the group of men pursuing him, sources said.

He bumped into the boy, and likely cut him by mistake, then fled, sources said.

Sefou said the man may have been on the run after attacking someone in at a nearby subway station.

“That’s why they’re chasing him,” he said. “I don’t know why he entered the mosque.”

The imam said he walked with the boy and his family to the 41st Precinct stationhouse about five blocks away.

Police were still looking for the man Sunday night, sources said.
