Four nabbed in ‘Game of Theft’
GAME, SET and match — four people have been arrested in India in connection with the leak of an episode of “Game of Thrones.”
The filching foursome are accused of criminal breach of trust and computer-related offences, Deputy Commissioner of Police Akbar Pathan told Agence France-Presse. They’re being held in police custody until Aug. 21 while authorities continue their investigation.
“We investigated the case and have arrested four individuals for unauthorized publication of the fourth episode from season seven,” Pathan said Monday.
AFP reported that the complaint was filed by a company based in Mumbai that stores and processes TV episodes for an app. Each of the arrested individuals reportedly worked for the company.
According to The Associated Press, the episode 4 leak is not linked to a recent HBO hack. That did, however, produce a detailed episode synopsis and full script for episode 4 online.
Leaks have done little to weaken the ever-growing viewership of “Game of Thrones” — Season 7, episode 4, set a record with 10.2 million people tuning in, according to Deadline.
