Time-share scam costs hotel $6.5M

- Stephen Rex Brown

A MIDTOWN HOTEL has agreed to cough up $6.5 million to customers duped into a luxury time-share scam.

The Manhattan Club tricked thousands of marks into buying time shares, then rented out rooms to the general public. That meant the time-share owners couldn’t get the rooms they paid for, Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said Wednesday.

“The owners of the Manhattan Club lured thousands of timeshare buyers with false promises and shady sales tactics that violated New York law,” he said.

The AG’s office launched an investigation in 2014 and uncovered the club’s aggressive tactics and lack of available rooms.

As part of the settlement, the hotel’s operators — Ian Eichner, Leslie Eichner, Stuart Eichner and Scott Lager — are banned from the time-share industry.

A message for the firm representing the Manhattan Club was not returned. The hotel remains open.
