Kin ‘sickened’ by hater’s Cash tee
THE KIDS of country music icon Johnny Cash are blasting the white supremacist who wore a T-shirt emblazoned with their late dad’s name in Charlottesville, Va.
“We were sickened by the association,” a statement released by daughter Rosanne Cash said. “To any who claim supremacy over other human beings, to any who believe in racial or religious hierarchy: we are not you.
“Our father — as a person, icon, or symbol — is not you.”
The siblings said they felt compelled to speak up after seeing a video of the young man wearing the shirt and “spewing hatred and bile,” they said.
The Cash kin said the Man in Black fought for social justice and the rights of poor people, prisoners, Native Americans and victims of gun violence.“His pacifism and inclusive patriotism were two of his most defining characteristics,” the statement said.
